Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
