Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Real-time updates includes live text of Sunday's games on multiple platforms, beginning with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Additionally, audio coverage is available on select stations covering another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar , following last week's discussion about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, they both lost their perfect starts.
Striking in those games was the number of infractions both committed. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they kind of defeated themselves having led by two touchdowns going into the final quarter versus Denver, who play overseas this weekend.
However it proved good to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie managed to have the shortfall and then lead three successful possessions on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the game by four points.
Denver have the defensive player of the year with cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are first in goal-line defense, whereas the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, yet Denver won that battle.
They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily sending more than four defenders instead they could position two LBs in the 'A' gap before withdrawing them and send a slot defender off the edge.
Early on of the season, it was noted during a show that Denver could be the current year's dark horses. They ended last season well then excelled of building upon that.
Could Denver be this year's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE their tight end has stepped up significantly and new running back their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He now ranks fifth league-wide in ground gains (402) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (4).
I love that the coach the Broncos' leader has "RUSH!" at the top of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates that the Broncos represent a squad aiming to prioritize the run, because one can achieve much based on that approach. It reduces down the pass rush and maintains in positive down and distances.
It's also helped QB Bo Nix, who entered into the league as the 12th overall draft pick last year, throwing 29 TDs – second only to a star QB in rookie records (31 back in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have the arm strength to throw all over, however they don't move in the same way that Nix has. He boasts exceptional passing ability, a unique trait, and he's highly agile.
His assets are his mobility, being able to throw on the run, as well as using varied release points to make throws as he moves out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He is able to deliver precision throws across the middle and over the corner.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he displays a lot of composure under pressure and isn't bothered by the blitz. He aims to evade a sack whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He possesses a high football IQ and is very decisive.
When you consistently rush it eats up time and makes the defence to stay in play for longer, and when you have a mobile QB the defense has to cover the area downfield and horizontally. This proves draining.
The quarterback has pushed back at Payton during games at times and it seems Payton appreciates that fire, seeing him as such a competitor. I think it's exciting for the coach to have a rookie QB that is similar to play-dough. The coach can truly build something up the way he wants to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for the coach.
The head coach owns a championship and has passed Bill Parcells in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing on offence is largely down to his leadership, his play-calling, his game sense – and the pairing with the QB aids shape him what he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy guiding you, to help you through difficult moments and boost confidence.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But is the team strong enough to face a top squad at full strength? Since that wasn't championship-level play from Philadelphia last Sunday.
Right now, it's unlikely the Broncos are incredible. They're performing above average, that's a good place to be in their division. All they need to do is maintain this trajectory.
They're really good at leaning into their strength, that is running the ball, and that's exactly what they must do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (sixth worst), five ground scores this season (10th worst), and they are the sole squad without a win a game.
Ever since the NFL began tracking turnovers decades ago, this team are also the first team to be without any turnovers through five games, this is kind of shocking considering that the head coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, Denver have a smooth-ish schedule up to their break (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders prior to the Chiefs.
Looking at their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are even with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could make a run at leading the division.
This hinges upon what version of the Chiefs they face because Denver {beat|def
