No McKenna Celtic Talks as Bellamy Pledges to Wales

Both have been linked with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on Monday.

The Manager's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties took charge of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been any of those discussions," the London-born ex- Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I possess a special position here at a special club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything external hasn't touched my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as long as I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Welsh forward is inclined to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and second-placed Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League campaign, even if they fail to end up Group J second place.

Given his current stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
