Over 36,000 Sudanese citizens have escaped since takeover of El Fasher to Rapid Support Forces, reports UN agency

More than 36,000 individuals have fled Sudan's Kordofan region eastern sector of Darfur since Saturday, as reported by the UN's immigration body.

The important central zone connecting the country's Darfur regions and the capital region has during recent weeks become the latest battleground in the extended civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the militia group.

Significant Displacement Figures

An approximated 36,825 people evacuated from five localities in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, as reported by the International Organization for Migration.

The individuals, most on foot, headed to Tawila, a town to the west of El Fasher that is currently accommodating over 652,000 refugees.

Heightened Forces Deployment

Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday noted a significant increase in both RSF and army concentration across communities throughout the state.

Both forces are vying for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a important strategic and command center that links Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have gathered at the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently circulated video message.

Local Inhabitants Report Safety Fears

A area citizen of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, stated that the number of RSF vehicles had grown significantly since the group's capture of El Fasher.

"We stopped going to our farms, concerned about fighting," the resident explained.

Another inhabitant, who requested anonymity for safety concerns, also indicated that "there has been a substantial growth in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the previous fortnight.

International Warnings and Appeals

A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "extensive crimes" and "race-driven revenge attacks" by RSF in Bara.

The diplomat alerted to patterns echoing those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against certain racial groups.

The spiritual head on Sunday appealed for an quick cessation of hostilities and the opening of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and hindrances to humanitarian aid "are creating unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the militia organization.

The ambassador further urged the world nations to categorize the group as a terrorist entity.
