The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
